...it's nothing compared to this, the !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! concept.
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
Introduced at the 1998 NAIAS, the Signia was based on the Park Avenue architecture.
It had a lot of interesting features. 240hp Series-II V6, hybrid all wheel drive system that controlled torque based on wheel speed sensors monitoring traction speeds (I think that's similar to what Subaru had at the time, though I'm not sure), powered rear floor that extended 15 inches out the back, etc.
But, the Signia had one little problem...it was horrendously ugly.
So, yeah. The Aztek may have been bad, but Buick could have sold something even worse.

Paint it purplish light blue. I'd drive it.
I always wanted to drive around in Eeyore.

It's not horrendous. With the tweaking that would come in the production process, it would probably come out pretty good. The front end design is certainly weaker than the rear.
These rear haunches were ahead of their time. Lots of crossovers today have this line right here.

Nope it wasn't ugly at all. You've got some stubby angles on the photos you show, but from different angles, and particularly when seen in person and moving, not smashed by a camera lens, it was a sporty/futuristic design at the time. WAY ahead of anything else.
You biggest problem is looking backward from more advanced design today, rather than forward from what proceeded this. It was surrounded by slabby K cars and bread dough Taurus', this looked like the freaking starship Enterprise stopping by to visit the peasants.
A bit busy and overdone, yes. But the big hatch and the haunchy fenders, it was pretty slick.
